  1. Volume 4, Phillimores Hampshire Parish Records.
  2.  
  3. This volume contains burials, christenings and marriages at 
  4. WINTON (Winchester) Cathedral and ST.SWITHUN-UPON-KINGSGATE, 
  5. Winchester. Only marriges are recorded for CRONDALL.
  6.  
  7. Burials for both WINTON and ST.SWITHUN are in one file, 
  8. H4_BUR.txt,and the index for these are in file, H4_BURX.txt
  9. Similarly with baptisms, the files being H4_BAP.txt, and
  10. H4_BAPX.txt
  11.  
  12. With the marriages, I have kept the same format as in previous 
  13. volumes.  In this instance, WINTON and ST.SWITHUN marriages
  14. are in MARR4_A.txt, and the CRONDALL marriages in MARR4_B.txt.
  15. The index of names of the marriages are in 4 files, H4A_C.txt,
  16. H4D_J.txt, H4K_Q.txt, and H4R_Z.txt.

  18. There is also file ALIAS4.txt which shows other names used, 
  19. either by the person concerned, or where the records were not
  20. clear and an alternative possibility has been mentioned in the
  21. book, or where it has been noted that the name is different to 
  22. that signed. I have only included these where there are significant 
  23. differences in the surname. I have not included those where the 
  24. only difference is an `e' on the end of the name.
  25. Most of these entries arise from the marriage records.

  27. The file OTHERS4.txt consists of all other names mentioned in the
  28. book and gives the parish where it occurs and the date.
  29.  
  30. The file PARISHES.txt lists all the parishes included in the
  31. Phillimores Hampshire Parish Records, listed by volume and 
  32. alphabetically.
  33.  
  34. The MARR4_A.txt and MARR4_B.txt files only give the minimum of 
  35. information, that is the names of the bride and groom, whether they
  36. were a widow(er), the date and the parish. Other information may be
  37. available in the volume or the fiche such as the parish they were 
  38. from.
